charitable efforts: georgia heart center

In In 1965, a dedicated Cardiac Care Unit opened at the Macon Hospital (now the Medical Center of Central Georgia). Only the second unit of its kind in the state, this CCU introduced unprecedented cardiac services and physician specialists to this area.

A decade later, heart surgeons performed the first Coronary Artery Bypass (open-heart surgery) outside Atlanta at what would become the Georgia Heart Center.

In 2005, the Georgia Heart Center earned much-deserved accolades as one of the top two Georgia hospitals in heart and vascular procedures. It also has been recognized as the thirteenth busiest heart facility in the United States. And the Georgia Heart Center is the fastest growing endovascular (vessels supplying blood to the rest of the body) in the Southeast.

We are proud of our growth and we are positioned to continue as a pioneer in the emerging areas of cardiovascular care. However, the aging population, exploding patient demand, and gamut of new technologies have caused severe physical constraints within our current location. Over the years, the Georgia Heart Center has been renovated numerous times to compensate for its continued development. Now it is time for a new building.

May 2-10, 2008 The Medical Center of Central Georgia hosts At the Heart of Life, a week of festivities introducing Central Georgians to the long-awaited new Albert Luce Jr. Heart Institute at the corner of First and Hemlock Streets. Join us Saturday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, health fair, and tours!

If you, a family member, or a friend has been treated at the Georgia Heart Center, we invite you to challenge your heart. Give a donation today.
