In 1983, The Medical Center opened a 60-bed group of intensive care units including cardiac/vascular, neurology, medical/surgical, and trauma beds. At the time they were opened, these units featured the most progressive treatment methods and technology in use across the country. Though these critical care units have served our patients well over the last 25 years, today our community requires more. Medical technology has advanced, the way we deliver healthcare has changed, and our population has increased.
New medical findings show that family involvement helps critical care patients recover more quickly and reduces the number of days they must spend in the hospital. Natural light and reduced noise levels also show benefits to the healing process. Specially modified workspaces, bedside computers, and mobile procedure lights help staff care for their patients more efficiently.
The most contemporary critical care centers have larger patient rooms with moveable medical equipment. This allows healthcare specialists to perform medical procedures without having to transport fragile patients throughout the hospital.
Currently, Medcen Community Health Foundation is engaged in the Generation to Generation fundraising initiative to renovate and expand The Medical Center of Central Georgia’s critical care units. Medcen’s Board of Trustees has committed to raising $7 million for a new Critical Care Center, which will combine the latest technology in a family-friendly homelike atmosphere.
When your friend or loved one needs the best medicine healthcare has to offer, medicine to heal patients and families, our Critical Care Center will be there. However, we can only make this possible through your contribution. Give a donation today.
