A History of Community Health
In 1895, a group of community-minded citizens raised funds to create the Macon Hospital, now The Medical Center of Central Georgia .Much has changed at The Medical Center, but the generosity of its supporters remains a steadfast tradition in our community.
Founded in 1973, the Medcen Community Health Foundation encourages private donations and community support to fund capital needs and medical education and research.
You can help us make a difference in the health of our community. Contact us to learn how you can help change lives through our Generation to Generation campaign. This 17-million dollar capital campaign is raising money for projects affecting our community at various stages of their lives.
The current focus of the campaign is to renovate and expand the hospital’s exiting Intensive Care Units into a Critical Care Center with an even stronger emphasis on the patient and family interaction. Constructed in 1983, the Intensive Care Units featured the most progressive treatment methods and technology in use across the country. Though these units have served our patients well over the last 25 years, today our community requires more. Medical technology has advanced, the way we deliver healthcare has changed, and our population has increased.
